What You Always Wanted to Know About... The Advent Calendar

by jamezbfod

HAPPY VALLEY - Hello again, I am JamezBfod, here to bring you a bit of advice that can help you have fun while earning Neopoints. If you were not aware already, it is the month of Celebrating. The air has grown crisp and cold (for most of us) and everyone (except a few humbugs) is full of holiday cheer. It is that time of year again, time to make the trek to the Happy Valley a daily occurrence. What am I getting at, you may be asking? I am talking about the Advent Calendar!!!!

Yes, my favourite event in all of Neopia. Everyone gets to play, everyone always gets something, and there is always a great new holiday scene accompanying the gift every day. If anyone reading does not know what that gift is, it is usually a few hundred Neopoints and an item or two. The item could be a candy treat, a Negg, a snowball, a toy, a Battledome weapon, a codestone (yes, they gave out Lu's last year), or possibly a item that will never be given again, making it a potential collectable. Today (Sunday, December 1st) I got a thousand Neopoints, a White Kougra Plushie, and a Tree Shaped Cookies. A nice haul, I think. Although personally, I love snowballs the most. What most people disliked last year was a particular practical joke involving a certain Hidden Tower item and a certain little pesky blue devil-thief who has a thing against pants. Anyway...on to business.

"Business, like shops? I thought you were writing this article about the Advent Calendar. What's going on, Jamez?" Well, as much as I would like to have written a purely warm and fuzzy holiday article, I decided to write one with tips to line your coffers, too. A coffer is like a purse, if you didn't know. Also increasing your vocabularies. I am at least a triple threat, indeed. Err, enough with the shameless self-promotion. Let us make with the coffer lining.

Last year Neopians went to collect the items and Neopoints daily. The inevitable reaction many Neopians had was to unload their newfound items in their shops. You can do that this year, but I would advise against it. Everyone will have one, so the demand for them will be low. And, again, everyone will have one, so the supply will be high. Instead, buy up the calendar items that other Neopians are selling, especially the more useful ones such as the Snow Mudball or Lu codestone last year. The prices will be down for a while, but for most, the price will rise in the future. So stock up, readers. There is a profit to be made!

You can decide for yourself which items you want to stockpile, and when to sell them. Personally, the more useful and more used items are going to be the ones I am going to make a special effort to nab. And I suggest that you wait until at least the month of Running (March) to sell your items. Possibly even as late as the month of Gathering (September) or Storing (November). The limited edition items, I suppose, you could hold indefinitely. In any event, you can have your fun and make some Neopoints too, if you can stand the long wait. In any event, this is JamezBfod, preparing to slide down from the top of Terror Mountain with his pets, each on our own sled. Weeeeeeeeeee!
