The Not-so-Official Neopian Sports Report

by bluescorchio104

Believe it or not, there is a sports industry out there. Now you can finally find out who won the international Deckball championship, or who became the new Boxing Champion.

Poogle Racing

Lately, this fantastic sport has lessened in popularity among fans. Unfortunately last season Jhudora destroyed the stadium, resulting in half of the scheduled races not taking place. The Uber-Faeries' reconstruction efforts were inhibited by an escapade of Faerie PetPets, as well as the pesky Pant Devil stealing materials during his lunch break from his part-time job at the Wheel of Excitement. Nonetheless, the season was great, with YippeeMatoe winning the Cloud-Lightning Trophy, the biggest honour ever given to a racing Poogle. Due to privacy concerns, YippeeMatoe's trainer refused an interview. There has also been some talk of building a steeplechase track by Fyora the Faerie Queen.

Nimmo Boxing

This year's boxing season was extraordinary, with the retirement of the current world champions of both the flyweight and lightweight categories. This brought out many fresh new competitors, with a Nimmo known only as 'Flash Fred' taking over the title of Flyweight Champion. A surprise to the critics, Yogi McQuishton managed to take the Lightweight Champion Title. Ryshu the Nimmo (of the Mystery Island Training School) however, retained his title as the Heavyweight Champion of Neopia.

Grundo Squash

A rather new sport, the first Grundo Squash Tournament was held only a month ago, with a Mutant Grundo by the name of Uurrgh facing off against a small, fast, purple Grundo called Ashtonian in the finals. Ashtonian was quite plainly the favourite, with numerous spectators cheering him on. The match itself was quite close however, with Ashtonian winning narrowly. This deserving Grundo won 1 million NP and a Jade Scorchstone. Uurrgh got a runner up prize of Ubikiberry Bag and 750,000 thousand NP.

Deckball

This Deckball season was quite poor, with many players dropping out of the game due to the removal of Dubloons. However, the remaining players who played in the Grand Final of the Krawk Cup Championship, (namely the Pawkeet team of Neochester, representing Neopia Central, and the Mirgle team of Neopool, representing Krawk Island) played against each other fiercely, and the umpire had to be replaced a record number of 14 times. In the end, Neochester came out on top, with a score of 4-3.

Skiing

This sport has had a popularity boom, with millions of Neopians and their NeoPets flocking to Terror Mountain in spite of the freezing cold winds and snow in order to see Usuls perform death-defying stunts and aerobatics. This year there were two major tournaments, the Ice Shard Masters tournament and the Glacial Freezer tournament. Mariel von Astergan, sponsored by International Slushie Enterprises, won the Ice Shard Masters tournament, after experiencing no major competition due to her major rival being unable to participate because of an accident involving a Rainbow Scooter and a brick wall. Mariel won a sum of 1 million NP and a pair of Ice Dice. Later in the year, in the Glacial Freezer Tournament, Mariel von Astergan took second place to her formerly injured rival Anita Flanester, (sponsored by Snow Foods Unlimited) who gave a flawless performance. Anita walked away with 1 million NP and a range of prizes, such as a Snow Flame, Crystal Boomerang, Snowball Machine, and a lifetime supply of Snow Puffs and Chia Pops.

Mountain Climbing

This year's Tuskaninny mountain climbing season had a slightly smaller turn out than last year, due to the conflicting skiing and mountain climbing sporting seasons. Held on the very peak of Terror Mountain, this year's major competition was the called the Cliff Scaler Championship. More than 200 Tuskaninnys (and one very confused Kacheek) turned up to compete. However, only 20 competitors made it to the finals, with one disqualified for using banned equipment, resulting in an ugly scandal. Furner Logel, after setting a new record, and being crowned Cliff Scaler Champion, walked away with an Everlasting Apple and a beautiful Rainbow Swirly Thing, both provided by Fyora. The runners-up received an Ice Sceptre, an Ice Shield and a Super Ice Sword each.

Grand Neoprix

An unusually large number of spectators turned up at Neopia Central to come see the Grand Neoprix. While there were was one riot caused by a bunch of rowdy Tonus, indicating the crowd were enjoying themselves, some unappreciative nearby residents complained about the excessive noise caused by the cars and spectators, which they said sounded like a hundred Trumpets of Blasting. The winner of this year's Grand Neoprix was a highly skilled Kougra named Frigral Schumagra. He ended up with 3 million NP, a Rubber Duck, a magnificent gold trophy, and a sore back from trying to pick up the trophy single-handedly. Frigral's numerous fans celebrated raucously, though many were puzzled to why he received a Rubber Duck. There was also a record of only 39 cars wrecked in the entire Grand Neoprix.

Well, that's all for today's sports report. Hope to see you at the next Glacial Freezer Skiing Tournament!
