Snowbunnies: Strange, But Still Lovable

by whatever_forever126

QUICK REF — Many times my Neopets talk to their Petpets. (I'm sure yours do, too, so stop snickering.) Pooshiligi, my Poogle, loves her Snowy the Snowbunny very much. She talks to Snowy all the time.

One time, Pooshiligi was talking to Snowy in our Living Room while I was washing the dishes. I overheard (out of boredom, though). This is how their "conversation" went.

Pooshiligi: "Hey, Snowy! How are you today? I'm fine, if you're wondering."

Snowbunny: *shivers*

Pooshiligi (in a concerned voice): "Are you cold?"

Snowbunny: *sticks her tongue out at Pooshiligi*

Pooshiligi: "Why are you sticking your tongue out at me? You should be nicer to me than that!"

Snowbunny: *shivers*

Pooshiligi: "But it's so warm in here! Why are you cold?"

Snowbunny: *chirps loudly*

Pooshiligi: "Uh... so now you're a Pteri?"

Snowbunny: *starts to bury herself into what she thinks is a pile of snow*

Pooshiligi: "That's not snow, Snowy. That's Mom's stuff. She's been thinking of a new short story for the Neopian Times, and that's her final draft. I don't think Mom will like that, and then I'll get all the blame. Please stop, Snowy."

Snowbunny: *continues to bury herself into MY papers*

Pooshiligi: "STILL? Really, Snowy, I'm trying to have a normal conversation here. I don't think burying into those papers are going to help me or Mom."

Snowbunny: *looks at Pooshiligi pathetically*

Pooshiligi: "Y'know, I don't think I'm pathetic, so stop it."

Snowbunny: "Pllllrrrrr."

Pooshiligi (in a concerned voice again — I swear, she's going to be the perfect mother in all of Neopia when she grows up): "Are you okay, Snowy?"

Snowbunny: *looks at Pooshiligi pathetically*

Pooshiligi: "Why do you think that I'm pathetic?"

Snowbunny: *scratches herself*

Pooshiligi: "You're a one-of-a-kind, Snowy."

Snowbunny: *chirps loudly*

Pooshiligi: "See what I mean? Either this is 'normal' Snowbunny behavior, or something's wrong."

Snowbunny: "Pllllrrrrr."

Pooshiligi: "Still, you're simply adorable. Remember, Snowy — I love you!"

Snowbunny: *looks at Pooshiligi pathetically*

Pooshiligi: "MOMMY!"

I started laughing. Soon I had to sit down in a Checked Kitchen Chair, I was laughing so hard. When I finally calmed down, I told her that I would talk to the owner of The Neopian Petpet Shop tomorrow.

When tomorrow came, Pooshiligi woke me up at four in the morning. At five, she made me walk all the way to The Neopian Petpet Shop.

Owner of The Neopian Petpet Shop (cheerfully): "Keep your Neopet happy with a pet of its own!!! What can I do for you?"

Me (still very sleepy): "Wow. You *yawn* must take hyper pills in the morning. I'm still pooped."

Owner: "Was that an insult or a compliment?"

Me: "Umm... I don't know. It *yawn* depends on how you look at it."

Owner: "Well, why did you come here so early? To try and steal my lovely Petpets? Or to talk to me at 5:15?"

Me: "Umm... I came here to ask some *yawn* questions, but I didn't mean to come here so early. You see —"

Owner: "No, I don't see. *smiles* Sorry, just playing. Continue, please..."

Me: *rolls eyes* "Well, anyway, one of my pets has a Petpet that is a *yawn* Snowbunny, and she thinks that the Snowbunny is acting weird for the past few *yawn* days. She wants to know what's wrong."

Owner: "What have you been doing with it lately?"

Me: "Umm... I don't know. You'd have to ask *yawn* Pooshiligi. I'm not the one who owns her."

Owner: "Well, where is she? She can't be hopping around at Terror Mountain until she meets the Snowager. *shudders* Yikes! Can you imagine what will happen to the poor thing?"

Me: "'The poor thing' is at home. I better go get her."

So, for the next 30 minutes I was walking to my NeoHome and back. Pooshiligi also came along.

Owner of The Neopian Petpet Shop: "So you're back, then! Let's see that Snowbunny of yours."

Pooshiligi: "Actually, Snowy is mines —"

Me: "Later, Pooshiligi. Here's Snowy."

Owner: "I'll examine Snowy, but I need to ask you questions. Why do you suspect that Snowy is acting ill?"

Pooshiligi: "All she ever does is shiver, stick her tongue out at me, chirp, bury herself into what she thinks is a pile of snow, scratch herself, and say 'Pllllrrrrr.'"

Me: *smiles* "And she looks at you pathetically, too."

Pooshiligi: "Hey! That wasn't nice, Mom."

Owner: *laughs as she checks Snowy's ears (for an ear infection, probably)* "Well, that's normal. All Snowbunnies act like this. You have nothing to worry about."

Pooshiligi: "But why is it normal? It seems so strange to me. I like to think of Snowy as one of my best pals, and strange behavior doesn't really help build our friendship."

Owner: *hands Snowy back to Pooshiligi* "To tell you the truth, I really don't know; Snowbunnies originate in Terror Mountain. You might want to ask the owner of Wintery Petpets, though. I'm sure he'll help you."

Me: "Okay. But are all Petpets basically like this?"

Owner: "Yes. I know that the Abominable Snowball can also turn into a puff of smoke and then turn back to normal, and its eyes can glow red, but that's all."

Me: *whips out a Pale Starry Notebook and an Air Faerie Pen* "Really? Wow! Could I ask you some more questions? I'm a Neopian Times reporter, and this topic seems so interesting."

Owner: "Sorry, but there's a customer waiting. Maybe next time?"

Me: "Sure. See you!"

Pooshiligi: "Bye!"

Snowbunny: "Pllllrrrrr."

As we returned to our NeoHome, Pooshiligi and I talked a little bit.

Pooshiligi: "Are we going to Wintery Petpets, Mom?"

Me: "No, Pooshiligi. I'm just going to ask the Usul some more questions in the afternoon, after my morning nap. I think Abominable Snowballs are so unusual! Maybe I should go buy one and see what it can do."

Pooshiligi: "How come we're not going to Wintery Petpets? I don't think the Usul was telling the truth. Maybe we should go to the Neopian Hospital to double-check."

Me: "I thought that the Neopian Hospital was only for Neopets, not for Petpets."

Pooshiligi: "Really, Mom? Well, how is it normal for Snowbunnies to chirp like Pteris?"

Me: *shrugs* "Maybe it's just in their nature or something. It's like saying, why do you have the habit of biting your nails?"

Pooshiligi "Since when did I bite my nails?! Snowy, tell Mom that I do not bite my nails!"

Snowy looked at Pooshiligi pathetically. I laughed.

Cuttie_pie1991's note: Hi, everyone! *grins* I hope you liked my — I mean, "our" — article! It's a first article for both me and fairy_princess975. Neomail greatly appreciated — it's so exciting to receive Neomails! My In Box thingy is always open for ideas, suggestions, and basically anything else. (Though I do say "no" to Very Rotten Tomatoes, Piles of Dung, Squashed Tchea Fruits, Piles of Sludge... you get the idea.)

The conservation between Pooshiligi — she's my blue Poogle, not fairy_princess975's — and Snowy DID exist. I elaborated on some stuff, but it still covers everything Pooshiligi said!
