The Stolen Battle Duck Crisis

by chia_lover01

Snow, a timid Bruce, looked both ways before crossing the busy streets of Neopia and quickly darted through the crowds of people, going in and out of the Neopian shops. Even though no one had seen the crime she had just committed, she felt as if everyone was looking at her suspiciously.

As she reached Mulberry Street, she realized she was almost home and started to run even faster. She had a strange feeling that someone was following her, she stopped and turned around… and saw nothing. She shock her head and thought to herself, just relax, no one knows but you, just get home fast. She turned to start running again, but didn’t get far. After running right into a starry Blumaroo, Snow landed smack on the street, spilling the battle duck she had just stolen onto the ground.

“Here let me help you,” said the Blumaroo as she bent down to help Snow up.

“NO… I mean no that’s okay, I can get up myself,” said the Bruce while pushing the battle duck back under her jacket, hoping that the Blumaroo hadn’t noticed it.

The Blumaroo got back up and gave the Bruce a look over. She noticed the Bruce seemed a little nervous and shaken. “Um… are you okay? Do you need a hand with that?” She was pointing to the noticeably large bulge in the Bruce’s jacket.

Sweat trickled down Snow’s forehead, “Need help with what? ...Uh, I have to go.” Snow took off running before the Blumaroo started to ask any questions. When she reached the bright red door of her Neohome, she quickly tried to open it, but it was locked.

“Oh man, I knew I forgot something at home. I really don’t want to wait until my owner gets home. Then she will know what I’ve done!” Snow said to herself as she tried to think of another solution. Suddenly, she got an idea! “I can just climb over the fence; my owner always keeps the back door open.”

Snow quickly walked towards the fence, she looked at it for a second not sure if she was doing the right thing. She thought to herself, I can do this! She slowly started to climb up the tall, wire fence, when suddenly she heard a voice behind her.

“SNOW! What do you think your doing?”

Snow closed her eyes and sighed, it was her owner. “Um, I kind of forgot my key… so I thought…”

“So you thought climbing the fence would be a good idea, right?”

     “That is exactly…”

“WRONG, that was the wrong choice Snow. Why didn’t you just wait for me to get home?? Come on climb down from there.”

Snow slowly climbed down from the fence and faced her owner. She knew she was in big trouble, and was deathly frightened that her owner would find out what she had done.”

Snow’s owner quickly opened the door to their quite little Neopian home, and gestured for the little Bruce to get in. Snow started to run up the stairs, but her owner caught her and said, “Not so fast buster, come sit on the couch I want to have a little talk with you.”

Snow sighed, and slowly walked back down the stairs and over to the couch across from her owner. She knew she was in for a long discussion. Snow was so distracted, that she had forgotten about the battle duck under her jacket. She plopped down on the squishy sofa, and put her head down, not able to look at her owner.

Snow’s owner let out a deep sigh and looked at her chubby plushie Bruce. She really couldn’t figure out why her little Bruce would try climbing over the wall. But she really wasn’t upset with her, more curious then anything. She smiled and thought to herself, I am really making too much of this, poor thing, look at her; she seems scared out of her mind. She probably thinks she is in a lot of trouble. Then she looked up and noticed a bulge in Snow’s jacket. Her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion, “Snow… what is that inside your jacket there?” She pointed to the bulge in Snow’s jacket.

Snow’s eyes widened and realized she had forgotten about the battle duck hidden under her jacket. She looked at her owner and then back down at the bulge in her jacket. She thought to herself, what am I going to do! Should I run, should I lie? Snow quickly replied without giving it much thought, “What bulge?” After the words came out of her mouth, she could have smacked herself for being so stupid, she knew her owner was smarter then to believe that.

“Really Snow, do think I am that stupid to fall for that one? Just hand whatever it is over.”

Snow knew she was trapped, she had to give it to her owner or she would be punished even more then she already was going to be. “Okay, but after I hand it to you, you have to let me explain…” Snow paused and waited for her owner to respond.

Snow’s owner had a stern look on her face, she smirked and then nodded, “Okay.”

Snow slowly pulled out the yellow, evil looking battle duck and set it on the coffee table in between them. She took a deep breath and quickly explained, “I stole this because I wanted to impress you and make you proud of me, because if I had this battle duck I could be the best Battledome fighter.” After Snow was finished, she was so out of breath that she had to take a couple gulps of air to compose herself.

Snow’s owner was in such a state of shock, that she looked as if she was about to faint. “You… you what?! YOU STOLE THIS!!!” She realized she was screaming and she tried to calm herself. “Snow, look at me. You don’t need to make me proud by being the BEST Battledome fighter by STEALING a battle duck. I am proud of you for just trying your best, and getting as far as you have. And besides, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, you’re the best in my eyes already.” She started to tear up as she looked at her Bruce. “Come here and give me a hug.”

Snow rushed into her owners wide spread arms, and they hugged and sobbed for what seemed like eternity. The following day Snow and her owner went back to the Battle Magic shop to return the battle duck.

“But…what about if he yells at me and then calls the Neopian police and then…”

“SNOW! Stop giving excuses. You should of thought about the consequences before you stole this battle duck,” Snow’s owner said as she gave her a look of irritation.

Snow knew she had to return it, no matter what the consequences. Besides, her owner would be even more disappointed in her if she didn’t. Snow gave out a big sigh and said, “Alright, lets just get it over with already.”

Snow held her owner's hand tightly as they walked into the Battle Magic shop together. But Snow’s owner made Snow go up to the owner of the store by herself, as she waited patiently by the door.

“Um… excuse me sir? I... I... I stole this yesterday. I’m really sorry…” Snow quickly placed the battle duck onto the counter. She couldn’t bear to look at the owner of the store, so she kept her head bowed down and tried with all her might not to cry. She was so scared that she would be arrested and put in Neopian jail for the rest of her life.

“I can’t believe my eyes! You are actually returning this to me? Wow, you must be a brave little Bruce.” He glanced up and saw Snow’s owner, he winked at her to reassure her that everything was fine. He walked around the counter and kneeled down in front of the little Bruce, so they both could be at eye level. “I accept your apology, and promise to not press charges. I am so impressed by your bravery and kindness for bringing it back, that I just couldn’t bring myself to do that.” The owner gave the Bruce a genuine smile. Snow was so surprised and overjoyed that without thing she jumped up and gave the owner a big hug.

She softly whispered in his ear, “Thank you.”

As he set Snow down he replied, “You're very welcome.” As soon as he set her down, she sprinted towards her owner and told her the good news.”

And from then on Snow never stole anything ever again, and, in fact, became an even better fighter then ever before. She never became the best, but it didn’t matter because her owner believed she was, and that’s all that mattered.
